Central Maryland Tournament

test

Tournament Update:

- Rocks and Minerals B/C will include metabasaltic greenstone as a local rock edition

- Wright Stuff B and Helicopters C will take place in the Reckord Armory, which has a maximum height of 55 feet tapering down to 35 feet at the sides. The event will primarily take place in the center of the room.

- The Hovercraft event supervisor has indicated that he may ask students if they have a diagram showing the electrical components of the device. Teams will NOT be docked if they do not have this on event day. However, as stated in Hovercraft Rule 2.f: "Participants must be able to answer questions regarding the design, construction, and operation of the vehicle", and this can include explaining electrical components. Having this electrical component diagram could be beneficial to competitors being able to fully explain their device and receive full points for that requirement."

- Updated schedules posted below with event room numbers

The Central Maryland Regional Tournament is held at the University Of Maryland at College Park and is the largest Regional including all schools not part of the Baltimore Region. Teams will participate in 23 events each in Division B (Middle School) and Division C (High School).

The Central Tournament at the University of Maryland will be held on February 24, 2018. The schedules have now been posted below in the documents section.

Please note the following logistical changes for this year's tournament:

  • There are no early morning events. The first event will start at 8:30 AM.
  • The timeblocks have been shortened to 50 minutes, with a 10 minute transition period in between.
  • The slots X, Y, and Z are just placeholders. At the end of the registration period, we will evenly divide the teams up into the three time blocks based on the team number. This is what nationals does. To be clear, whether your team competes in the X,Y, or Z timeblocks will determine only when you will compete in the events, rather than what events you will be competing in. All conflicts are the same for all teams.
  • Build events are going to be based on a walk-in time schedule that we will post closer to the competition once we have an idea on how manyb teams we have. NOTE: We may have to place a limit on how many JV teams can compete in build events. Space might be limited, please keep checking the website for more information in the future.
  • We will be running three timeblocks per event. All conflicts are the same for all teams, but we are running events either in the morning or in the afternoon.
  • We have removed the lunch break. Our last timeblock will finish at 2:35, so students can eat then if not during the middle of the day.
  • We do have a 25 minute transition period in between the morning and afternoon sessions. This is only there as a buffer to offset any overrun from the morning events so all of the afternoon events can start on time.
  • There are no trial events this year
  • Make sure your students take advantage of the later start in the morning to walk their route from event to event so they are not late.
  • The awards ceremony will be at 5:15 PM.

Please contact Leigh Ann DePope at ldepope@umd.edu if you have any logistical tournament questions.

Note: Each Central MD School (per division) will be assigned an event to run at the regional tournament and at State Finals for advancing schools. By registering a team, the registrant confirms that they understand that an an event coordinator will assign an event and communicate the assignment via email and such assignment must be confirmed on receipt. If an individual school is registering both a middle (Div B) and high (Div C) school, two events will be assigned. The school must provide sufficient knowledgeable volunteers to staff our assigned event
